Unlock a USB Drive if You Forgot Your Password Of course, whenever we use a password, PIN, etc., on any device, card, or website, we can lose or forget it, and in the case of USB drives, write-protected data would be encrypted. But all is not lost, and if we have an administrator password, we must follow these steps: Connect the USB drive to our PC and go to Computer. Right-click the USB drive and choose "Properties" followed by "Security." Click "Edit" and enter our administrator password. Select our username under "Groups and Usernames" and click the "Allow" radio button next to the "Full" and "Write" settings in the "Permissions for Authenticated Users" section. Click "Apply" and then "OK." Another way to access our USB drive is by making changes to the Windows registry. This would be the case if we have forgotten or lost the password for an encrypted USB drive or its files, so let's see what we can do to decrypt this write-protected USB drive. It's not overly complicated, but we do need to follow certain steps, which are as follows: First, we follow the path to locate "StorageDevicePolicies" in any version of Windows and change the "WriteProtect" value. Pressing the Windows + R keys will bring up the "Run" dialog box, and we will type "regedit" in this search box. Press Enter. In the Registry Editor, we follow the following path: ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlStorageDevicePolicies Double-click the "WriteProtect" value in the right pane of the Registry Editor, and change the value from 1 to 0. Close the Registry Editor and restart our computer. We check the status of our USB drive to see if we can access our files. Now we can access the USB drive and use the important files it contains again.
